Servers and Performance
Server performance tips, optimization, and technical information.
Server Hosting & Performance Guide
Our servers at FOC are the most important part of our community; without them, we wouldnβt have a community. Everything about their operation is of vital concern, and as good stewards, all players contribute to ensuring smooth performance. This guide covers everything from hardware requirements to server sponsorship and reset protocols.
Sponsoring a Server
The Server Commissioner is the individual who monetarily supports the server and acts as its representative. To become a Commissioner, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- New Map Sponsor: Open a new map and hold a Large Tractor role or higher ($20+ monthly donation tier + one-time startup fee).
- Existing Map: Be the longest-serving Large Tractor (or higher) resident on a map that currently has no Commissioner.
Note: Land on sponsored servers can be sold to other players or back to NPCs at appraisal price. If sponsoring within 30 days of becoming a Farm Manager (FM), land is returned to NPCs at 100% value. New servers incur a $50 server key fee.
Server Resets & Map Replacements
To preserve stability on long-running maps, we offer reset options if all map members agree.
Standard Reset
- Map save reset to the original version.
- Players keep all land, equipment, and cash.
- Terrain and trees are restored to default.
- 50% compensation for placeables and buildings.
- Livestock must be sold by the player prior to reset.
Map Replacement (Fresh Map)
- Requires a Large Tractor (or higher) sponsor and a $20 sponsor reset fee.
- Server is replaced with a fresh save of the chosen map.
- Equipment must be stored in the Virtual Garage.
- Land must be sold to NPCs; new land is secured via new server auctions.
Map Type Classifications
| Map Type | Restrictions & Policies |
|---|---|
| 1x Maps | Max acreage cap of 250 per FM. If the sponsor leaves and <2 FMs remain, the map may close if unsupported. |
| 16x Maps | CAUTION: High risk of performance issues. We recommend visiting or contracting before committing to a move. |
System Requirements
| Component | Minimum (FS 22/25) | Recommended (Better Experience) |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10/11 64-bit |
| CPU | i5-3330 / AMD FX-8320 | Modern Multi-core CPU |
| RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB+ |
| GPU | GTX 660 / R7 265 (2GB VRAM) | Modern DX12 Dedicated GPU |
| Storage | 35 GB Free | 50 GB+ on SSD |
π₯ Warning for Mac Users: There are known compatibility issues between MacOS and Farming Simulator developers that are beyond FOC control. We cannot provide technical support for connection or gameplay issues specific to Mac.
Gameplay Performance Guidelines
Violating these technical rules may result in server lag, crashes, or fines. Please be a good steward of your server's performance.
- π¦ Bale/Pallet Storage: Move items into storage placeables immediately; never leave them strapped to trailers.
- π Virtual Garage: Store equipment that is not in active use to reduce map render load.
- ποΈ Closed Sheds: Always use sheds with doors to hide vehicles from the renderer.
- π² Tree Clean-up: Never leave partially cut trees, loose branches, or stumps on the ground before logging off.
- β‘ Trigger Hygiene: NEVER overlap triggers from multiple buildings or placeables.
Logging & Stability
Logging non-spruce/pine trees can cause extreme server instability or crashes due to unoptimized physics. Large-scale clear-cutting of decorative trees should be avoided. Spruce and Pine generally perform better and should be the focus of your logging operations. Scorched earth policies for non-pine trees are not allowed.
