Forestry Rules

Any Farm Manager can cut trees on their own land providing they follow the rules on logging. If you want to take your logging to the next level and plant trees or place logging productions, you need a logging permit. We’ll start with general forestry rules applicable to anyone and then move into the specifics of permits and rules specifically for them/forest land.

Forestry maps are defined as any map where all parcels are dedicated to logging.
Hybrid maps are generally defined as any map that exceeds 80 acres of loggable land and at least ten unique forest parcels.

Logging Rules #

1.🟥 Full-time forestry is limited to forestry and select hybrid maps. Hybrid maps may choose to opt-out of full-time forestry altogether by request of commissioner and unanimous vote of FMs on the server. Any opted out servers will be listed below with the classification of the servers.

2.🟧 Any map that does not qualify as a forestry or hybrid map… or maps that have opted out of full-time forestry; may only log during the winter months.

3.🟥 You may not plant trees on any parcel that is not labeled a “Forest” parcel with the exception of decorative trees. You may not log decoratively placed trees.

4.🟧 When you sell logging land you MUST replant trees before you sell.

5.🟧 Mulchers and stump grinders are for stumps only and should not be used to destroy entire trees, branches, or sections of trees on the ground. (Normal field use is appropriate)

6.🟧 Cut and load enough trees for one trip. Clear stumps frequently. Don’t cut large amounts of logs at a time and leave them on the ground. Do not leave the server with trees or stumps on the ground. Finish your job so that server performance does not impact others.

7.🟨 Use a truck and/or trailer when transporting logs. The FDR Truck can only be operated by permit holders and must only be used for logging.

Map Classifications #

Some rules are specific to a certain classification of a map or even a server. This list helps clarify those classifications so that you can properly be aware of and follow the rules that pertain to it. Note: If a map is missing from this list, please let us know so that we can add it.

Logging Permits and Forest Parcels #

To purchase land defined as logging or forestry land, you must be a Farm Manager on an eligible map on which you hold a FM slot. You must also purchase a logging permit. All hybrid maps are eligible, as are dedicated logging maps.

There is no limit of permits on servers, but beware that only 2 harvesters (machine or chainsaw) can be active at any time. Forestry Servers are excluded from this limit. If your farm is using multiple, you must yield one of them to another logger if asked. Otherwise these 2 slots are first come, first serve. This is to ensure server performance is not effected. Logging permits cost $750k, when you are ready to purchase simply open a modmail ticket and staff will assist.

Logging parcels are included with the daily land draws at random with the other parcels for your server. Prior to bidding on logging land, open a ticket to declare that you would like to purchase a permit. You must purchase a permit before you become eligible to own logging land. Logging parcels can be purchased from notice-board auctions, or direct from other players. Make sure you have read the full permit rules on the wiki prior to purchasing your permit.

First time FMs can purchase logging land with their starter pick, however, they must purchase a permit prior to purchasing the land. This can be achieved when you apply to become a Farm Manager. Cumulative logging land ownership is capped at 300 acres (the 300 acre cap will be assessed at regular intervals and may change as requirements dictate).

Heartland Springs is unique in the sense that there are no pre-defined forestry parcels. Heartland Farm Managers are able to convert farmland into logging land. If you wish to convert land on Heartland, open a modmail ticket and a member of staff will assist. Heartland Springs has a server max forest conversion of 720 acres total. Because you already own the land that you wish to convert, you will be charged NPC price again as a conversion fee to meet the 2x logging land valuation.

Permit Rules #

1.🟧 All rules in the standard Forestry section of rules apply. No leaving stumps on the ground after logging sessions. Log what you can process in each session. No using mulchers or grinders to remove entire trees. Be mindful of your operations impact on other players.

2.🟥 All forests must be fully replanted at the end of any lease or prior to a land sale.

3.🟧 You may only plant trees on defined forestry parcels that you own. (Or converted parcels on Heartland Springs)

4.🟨 Only those in possession of a logging permit are eligible to place and own a sawmill. Sawmills can only be placed on land that has forest in the title.

5.🟧 Productions on forest parcels are limited to Sawmills and Carpenters. If you have a predefined field on your parcel, you may place an additional 2 productions of any type. You may only have one of each, as per regular server rules.

6.🟧 Plowing of new fields is not allowed on forests. This includes planting grass (paintable grass is fine).

7.🟨 Logging permits can only be held on hybrid or dedicated logging maps that you have a Farm Manager slot on.

8.🟧 Planted trees must be at least 10 meters apart.

9.🟧 Permits are assigned to Farm Managers and follow you when you move between servers. It is possible to own a permit without owning logging land.

There are four occasions where your permit will be revoked meaning you will need to purchase a new permit:
– Bankruptcy.
– Prestige.
– Leaving the community for any reason.
– Taking a break as a Farm Manager for longer than 30 days.

Converting logging land into farm land #

You may convert logging land to a regular parcel via a multi-step process that includes a request (please note this is a request and it can be denied by the admin team) made via ticket as well as a one-time $250,000 fee. This is on top of purchasing the logging land at the listed price. Only permit holders can plant trees and they can only plant on parcels named forest. Converting a parcel is a one-way process and after conversion you may no longer plant trees on it.

Logging land is available via the normal land draw or private sale. When purchasing any logging land one of the following must be true:

  A) You must currently have or plan to buy a logging permit

    or

  B) You must apply for the parcel to be converted to farm land via a ticket

When a forest is up for auction you are encouraged to open the ticket to apply for conversion as soon as possible, but it is not required to be completed before auction end if time does not permit. If you do not own a logging permit and your application for conversion is denied, then your sale of the forest parcel will be denied and it will be offered to the runner up. If neither are eligible to purchase, the sale will be canceled in it’s entirety.

When a conversion is processed, the parcel NPC value would adjust by half to the normal 100% NPC value, removing the markup for logging land. We then update the parcel name to remove the forest reference. All trees need to be cleared from the parcel within 1 in-game year of purchase. Reminder: After conversion the parcel cannot be planted with trees anymore and you will be unable to convert back to a forest. Additionally, you are unable to sell the parcel for any reason until 30 days have passed.
